So, today we’re answering some of your most common questions about this injectable treatment.
What are neuromodulators and how do they work?
Over time, the muscles in your face repeatedly contract and tighten, causing frown lines, crow’s feet, and other wrinkles. Neuromodulators, including BOTOX® and Dysport®, are a class of injectable treatments that work by blocking the nerve signals to certain facial muscles, preventing them from contracting and thus preventing wrinkles from developing or worsening. By relaxing the muscles, existing wrinkles also soften.
What can neuromodulators treat?
Neuromodulators are approved to treat a variety of aesthetic concerns including:
- Horizontal forehead lines
- Frown lines between the brows, also known as ‘elevens’
- Bunny lines on the nose
- Crow’s feet around the eyes
- Wrinkles on the upper lip
Younger patients may also decide to undergo proactive neuromodulator treatments to prevent lines and wrinkles from forming in the first place.
Who performs neuromodulator treatments at FORM Face + Body?

Will I still be able to move my face?
Yes! When performed effectively, neuromodulator treatments should create natural results and should not alter your ability to produce completely normal facial expressions.
How many treatments will I need?
Neuromodulator treatments can be used to improve the appearance of lines and creases for short periods of time, or can be used regularly every 3-6 months to keep your skin consistently smoothed and refreshed.
What’s the recovery like?
Neuromodulator treatments don’t require any downtime, so you can return to normal activity right away with a few restrictions that apply to the first 48 hours. In some cases, you may notice some bruising at the injection site, though most patients don’t.
How long do results last?
Neuromodulator results are not permanent and will last for 3-6 months following treatment. If you choose to cease regular treatments, muscle function will return to normal and creases will re-appear as they were prior to treatment.

What is the difference between BOTOX® and Dysport®?
The first thing you need to know is that both BOTOX® and Dysport® are Health Canada approved and very safe. The two are very similar in terms of ingredient make-up, how they work, and the results they produce. There are a few slight differences that may influence which of the two our team chooses for your treatment.
The effects of Dysport® seem to kick in a bit faster, with reports of efficacy within 1 to 3 days compared to 3 to 7 days with BOTOX®; however the efficacy period is very similar for both, with results lasting anywhere from 3-6 months.
BOTOX® is more concentrated than Dysport®, which results in less diffusion of the product and a smaller treatment area. For this reason, BOTOX® injections are more accurate and stronger, making it a great choice for treating areas where the muscles are thicker, like between the eyes. Because Dysport® is more diluted and thinner, the diffusion rate is higher, which allows the product to spread more easily and treat wider areas. This makes it well-suited for treating areas like laugh and frown lines around the eyes and on the forehead.
